The Lure of Marketing
This could be a very hard chapter to read for some. This chapter deals with the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Jim writes about a time when he was approached by a couple asking for the church's blessings on their marriage. Rather than giving them a blessing that was not genuine, he pointed out to them that they were living together and that was not acceptable behavior according to the scripture. He suggested to them that they change their living arrangements until after the wedding and that they start that arrangement immediately. Not only did he suggest that... But he provided them help in getting other arrangements. That was one of the key elements in this story. It's one thing to tell people what they should be doing...and an entirely different one to help them follow your suggestion. It's the old 'put your money where your mouth is' rule.
What I couldn't shake during the reading of this chapter is that, regardless of whether you like it or not, abortion is the killing of another human being. Plain and simple. Our government and society can sugar coat it all they want, but in the end it's killing another human being. Is that being judgemental? Yes. But not by me. If you're feeling guilty, that's by your own deeply embedded knowledge that it's right. Do I forgive you? Sure. But I must remind you that in the scripture they are told to 'sin no more'. That means what it means. Stop it. Now. Not tomorrow, the day after, or a week from now. It means right now. Quit supporting it.
But , this is not something I want to hear some stupid argument about. Unlike some folks, I'm not the guy that's going to dance around and try to appease you. You deal with it. I'll still buy you a cup of coffee or talk about the game with you. But I will never, ever put my life in your hands. You don't respect life and I would fear for mine.
