Day 8 - Love is Not Jealous

Today's Verse:
Love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire. – Song of Solomon 8:6 NIV
Today's Message: Not everyone that becomes friends with your spouse is a competitor for their attention. Some are there to help them achieve the goals that your spouse has set for themselves. Some are there to help cheer your spouse on when you can't be there. After all , you can't be together 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As loving partners, both of you should try to recognize the gifts that the other has, and help them share those gifts with each other.
There is such a thing as legitimate jealousy, but it can be avoided by paying close attention to the needs of your spouse. Be mindful of your spouses needs, but be aware of the things that can trip your trust along the way.
Today's Questions:
  • Do you struggle with being jealous of others?
Today's Dare:
Determine to become your spouse's biggest fan and to reject any thoughts of jealousy. To help set your heart on your spouse and focus on their achievements, take yesterday's list of negative attributes and discreetly burn it. Then share with your spouse how glad you are about a success he or she recently enjoyed.
  • How hard was it to destroy the list?
    • Not hard at all. Deleted and moved on. I can't even remember what was on it.
  • What are some positive experiences that you can celebrate in the life of your mate
    • The birth of our children… each of them.
    • 28 years of marriage.
  • How can you encourage them toward future successes?
    • I think I do a good job of that now. We discuss things that are going on at work everyday, on the ride into her job. However, I will think about it more.
    • I think the thing I should encourage her more with is her artwork. That's really what I should focus on more. How can I help her get back to her art?
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. (Romans 12:15)
